Below are some of the current vacancies we have available, job description, and how to apply in the first instance. There are three types of membership in the rural fire service, Active, Support, and Community. All are as important as each other in the day to day running of the fire brigade as well as during fire incidents. | Active Member (Fire Fighter) You work on the fireline as a firefighter, you may be called to a variety of incidents from wildfires to car fires to structure fires. You are expected to complete a minimum level of accredited training (no cost) as well as attend most brigade level training. You are also expected to attend all monthly meetings. Support Member You work in the behind the scenes part of the brigade in areas such as catering, cleaning, communications, crew transport, maintenance, etc At this stage there is no formal training but this is soon changing, We do however have in house brigade level training for support members to apply themselves to their positions in a safe and efficient manner. You are requested to attend all monthly meetings. Community Member This is a relatively new membership class and is aimed at community members or groups that work with the brigade from time to time, this may include,but is not limited to , tradesmen, suppliers, plant operators, community groups, etc. No attendance is required at monthly meetings although you are more than welcome to attend. |
As a trainee rural fire fighter you will be trained in all facets of local wild fire fighting techniques to nationally accredited standards. Certification will be presented on the successful completion of the required units. All units are competency based. The successful applicant will be able to apply themselves in a methodical and concientious manner with regard for QFRS "Zero Harm" OH&S Policy and be able to follow directions from senior officers. All Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied free of charge, you will also be supplied with brigade station wear upon successful completion of your FMS assessment (Firefighter minimum skills). The applicant will need to realise that although training will be at set times, fire incidents occur at any time, you also may be called to incidents that may cause severe psychological and physical stress. The applicant also need to understand that in the first 12 months of being an active member that there is a large amount of training involved and due to the unpredictable nature of the position there can be some impact on family life from time to time. | Among other personnel care systems, QFRS also offers full counselling support through its "FireCare" Network to assist members after a critical incident or job related stress. It is envisaged that the trainee will complete their basic training within 3-6 months and be promoted to the rank of "Rural Fire Fighter" All applicants must be over 18 years of age and undergo a pre membership history check with the Queensland Police (over 18's only) to ascertain their suitability in the first instance.
