The Shellcott Street park next to the Toogoom Rural Fire Station is undergoing an upgrade over the next few weeks, starting with the installation of a brand new stainless streel barbeque.

Work commenced on Wednesday the 29th of July with volunteers of the fire brigade removing the old brick barbeque, which has been out of action for nearly two years to make way for the new one. Fraser Coast Regional Council Parks Department will be installing the new Barbeque within the next week.
"Parks are also supplying a Semi-Trailer load of top grade mulch to dress up the gardens, and decompressed granite to top up the pathway to the beach." 1st Officer Matt Murphy revealed."We hope to have the park fully finished by the end of the month with modifications to the front fence to enable easier access for service vehicles, and also new signage."

Recently the brigade installed new lighting at the station to make the area safer at night, including new sensor lights at the front and side of the appliance building and vandal resistant flouro lighting under the verandah of the training building, which is connected to a timer to light up the area of an evening.
"The park was given a spruce up about three or four years ago by volunteers of the brigade under the direction of the previous first officer John Becker. Although regular maintainence has been done by both brigade members and council crews the park needed a major "once over" to bring it back to its previous standard"
